Though uncommon, Phimosis is a serious problem when it does occur. It can cause a lot of pain, discomfort, and irritation to the people that it affects, and it can be completely misunderstood, which can cause the problem to be worse in the future. There are different treatments available to cure this disorder, but one of the better ones is to have a circumcision, which results in the total or partial removal of the foreskin.

This disorder results when the foreskin on the penis cannot retract fully or cannot retract at all. There are many reasons for this, including the fact that the foreskin is too tight or that it has become sealed to the glands on the head of the penis. There are also many causes of this disorder, including all of the following, among others:

  • As a baby and young child, the foreskin is not supposed to retractable. However, many people, not being aware of this, try to force it to retract, which can cause the child to develop Phismosis later when the foreskin should be retractable.
  • It could be a genetic problem.
  • It can result as a side effect of severe Balinitis, which is inflammation of the head of the penis.
  • It can be the result of a fusion of glands.
  •  It can be the result of excessive or severe scarring.

For many men, the thought of circumcision can be very scary. They assume that the procedure will be painful and difficult. While this may in part be true, it is usually safe and over time, the pain caused by Phimosis could actually be worse and it is at least more persistent.

While there are some stretches that can be done to eliminate a mild case of the disorder or a topical cream that can be used to help the problem, the best and most effective method, especially if it is a severe case, will be to have a circumcision. This can completely eliminate the problem.

Circumcision is a surgery wherein the doctor will separate the foreskin from the head of the penis with special clamps and use a surgical device to clip off part or the entire foreskin. Without the foreskin, there will be no problem. Because this disorder is a problem with the foreskin, eliminating it will get rid of the issue.

No matter how severe or mild the case is, a man with a Phimosis problem should probably consider having a circumcision, but the worse it is, the more likely it is that this will be the best result. The best way to find out, though, is to talk to a doctor.
